By storing wet organic matter in gastight containers,
biogas is produced. Microorganisms break the molecular structure of the
organic material down and produce methane gas and carbon monoxide which are the
major ingredients of biogas. Biogas technology is also variously known as
anaerobic digestion. Methane is a gas with high energy content which can be
converted into electrical power via a gas engine and generator. Another
by-product of the process is heat which can also be utilized. |
